IP_FORWARDING IN 2.1.X

Friends;
I am still not sure about IP FORWARDING in 2.1.x How can we enable
them or what will I do if I want to enable in 2.1.x because I think I will
upgrade my kernel to 2.1.x but I am still not sure about it.
I heard that we have to edit some files in /proc/somewhere but
where is that file and how? Are there will be the same as 2.0.x or not.
Any suggest is very welcome.
