If you're running the newer kernels, using modules, you can easily add
multiple adapters. I have a machine using the following statements in
/etc/conf.modules:

alias eth1 3c59x
alias eth2 3c59x
alias eth3 3c59x

It's using four adapters, one driver compiled in the kernel, and the
remaining three loaded as modules.
