Well, I do not have a linux box with more than 1 net-card, but we had similar
problems with IPX-routing on a Novell server with 2 cards. Those problems were
fixed when we bound the right protocol with corresponding frame-types. IPX
frame-types that I know are:
ethernet 802.2,
ethernet 802.3,
ethernet II
Perhaps you can configure yout ipxd with any frame-types?

Did you check out and test the IPX-stuff in

Yet Another option:
You can't get a hub for an appropriate price? Even in Germany you can get hubs
for under DM100 (~US$60) which provide sufficent function for playing net-games.
You could share the costs with those you play together!?
