If you had installed from a good release like Slackware or RedHat,
which comes on CDs, you will find various HOWTO files & DOC files
somewhere on the CD. For example, I had purchased Linux Slackware 96
(a set of 4 CDs ) release from a company in Bombay. It contains all
the info, including 'System Admin. Guide', 'Network Admin. Guide',
'Kernel Hackers Guide', & various other information. In case you don't
have this type of CD set, please buy one. I costs about Rs 1725-00 or
so.
Also, buy some good books on Unix. I suggest 'Unix Power Tools' by BPB
publications. Rs 395-00 inclusive of CD. ( Its on general Unix
Utilities programming; excellent book) You write that Linux was
difficult to install. In case you don't have Linux specific book, buy
may buy 'The Complete LINUX Kit' by BPB publications. Comes with
Linux version 1.2.2 kernel on CD. But is not needed.
