Ftp question

Hello,
I across a funny glitch with an ftp server. The only serious error
message I could get when attemtping to debug it was the following:

"No control connection for command: Transport endpoint is not connected."

Then the session would fire off /etc/msgs/dead.msg, and close out.

For spare info, the system is linux 2.0.23, gcc2.7.2, libc5.4.17, ld.so-1.8.5
and binutils 2.7.0.3.

Only major change to the server has been with libc in last couple months.
