Internet nic on Compaq Deskpro 486

I am having a problem getting Linux to recognize the internal network
adapter, which I believe should work with the AMD driver.

The only thing I can find, after trying several variations on what
drivers I put in the kernel, is that it appears that the problem may
be due to the kernel not being able to work with the PCI bus. During
bootup, it mentions something about finding PCI data sturcture at a
certain address, then says not able to access PCI in high memory. I
believe the internal NIC is attached via the PCI bus, but so is the
internal video adapter, which it sees just fine.

Any comments or assistance?

ALso, is there another mailing list where this question would be more
appropriate? Either a compaq or PCI list?

Thanks in advance.
