The latest (just released) util-linux has /sbin/hwclock that uses
/dev/rtc. It is functionally equivalent to /sbin/clock - in fact, it
is meant to replace/obselete it.

You should find it more reliable than `clock'. (Although, truth be
told, I've never had any problems with it).
