I have been running Netscape 3.0 now on my Linux Box so far and don't
have a problem on Java applications. (Atleast the ones I've run so
far.)

Did you compile Java support for your Linux 2.0.x kernel???
I haven't been able to get Java to work on anything less than 1.3.99.

And IMHO, Netscape does take Linux very seriously. They are one of
the few who make browsers to even run on Linux. If you are having
problems with core dumps, try to remove the core file in
/{whatever)/Netscape
