You shouldn't need to go to so much trouble. If you know what address and
interrupt it is at, you can add it as a kernel option in lilo, or give
the option directly to the kernel. The format is
ether=interrupt,address,interface for an ne2000. Here is an example from
my /etc/lilo.conf file:

# Start LILO global section
append="ether=5,0x300,eth0"
boot = /dev/hda
......
# End LILO global section
# Linux bootable partition config begins
image = /vmlinuz
root = /dev/hda1
label = linux
read-only # Non-UMSDOS filesystems should be mounted read-only for checking
# Linux bootable partition config ends
# old kernel
.....

With a few parts deleted for brevity.....
