fast retransmitted pkt lost

Hi,

  What if the retransmitted packets triggered by 3 dup acks get lost?
  can I re-trigger the sender to get it by sending again 3 dup acks, or
I can just wait for the sender to timeout?
  I do not want time out since it is too long, any other ways I can let
the sender to send them immediately?
