libnss_wins doesn't appear to use smb.conf (i.e. it doesn't appear in
the output from "strace", nor in the result of running "strings" on
libnss_wins.so.2).

Odd. I don't get any of the above.

OK; If you can get the correct IP address for a hostname, then
libnss_wins is working correctly.
