Try unplugging the system and doing a really cold boot. A soft-off does not
reset the chip.
If this solves the problem, we will have to add code to re-load the EEPROM
info into the chip.

The chip is responding with all zeros to every access.

No, it's not a RTL8139. The RTL8139 is used the "530+", not the original
"530" (a VIA Rhine) or the current "530" (Rhine-II). Confused? You are
supposed to be...
