hi,
i would like to examine the contributing factors in deciding
whether authentication mechanisms such as a RADIUS client, be implemented
in kernel space or user-space. i'm not trying to start a flame-war, just
want to have a clearer concept of what should and what should not be in
the kernel.
for example, a web server (khttpd) was included into the 2.3 and
2.4 kernels, mainly for efficiency reasons. off-hand, some reasons i could
think of for implementations in user-space are:
- easily extensible
- flexible
- easier to implement
so, what are the arguments for and against implementing the
authentication mechanism in kernel space and user-space?
thanx.
