In theory: yes. In practice: don't do it, it can cause confusion and the
practice of calling your webserver www.<domain> is a widely accepted
de-facto standard. (Note that this is different from using the domain
name as a mail address: there you just need a MX entry while the
webserver needs either an A or a CNAME record.)
