I'm one of the two authors for the Linux IP Stacks Commentary. According
to the editors at Coriolis, the book went to press the middle of January,
and is expected to be on the shelf before Washington's Birthday (Feb
22). Here is the URL for more information:

Why the delay, you ask? The original schedule called for the book to be
completed in four months. The actual time required to pour over the source
code and understand completely what was going on required ten months of
time, including technical review and editing. Given the choice of doing it
right or doing it by Tuesday, I chose the first option. Coriolis was angry
at the delay, but once we showed them what it took to develop a chapter
they relented and rescheduled.

I had taken author proofs to the Think Conference in November for comment,
which was favorable. (There were a lot of FreeBSD a/d/v/o/c/a/t/e/s/
people there, asking me why I "wasted my time" with Linux. I said "show me
a publisher willing to pay me money for this and I'll write about OpenBSD
TCP/IP. Besides, Stevens has already done the job, so why repeat it?")

One reason I'm watching the Linux Kernel and Linux Net lists so closely is
to determine the optimum time to start the second edition based on the 2.4
kernel. So far, it appears that the TCP/IP portion of 2.3.4x is still in
enough of a state of flux as to be imprudent for me to start in -- when
source changes under me then I have to adjust everything, a VERY painful
process.

When the book comes out, errata and such can be found at

as well as a mail address to send your comments, bricks, and other stuff.
