Have a look at the current beta of sendmail: 8.10beta10 can use the cyrus
sasl library for authentication.

The release version of the sasl library doesn't yet support the "LOGIN"
authentication mechanism - which is the only non-proprietary mechanism
offered by outlook / outlook express. The current beta version found at

ftp://ftp.andrew.cmu.edu/pub/cyrus-mail/BETA/cyrus-sasl-1.5.14.tar.gz

has (reluctantly, since it's not standard and not documented) added support
for login, meaning interaction is now possible with quite a few email clients.

Bye, Martin.
