2.1.127 works here.

No problems so far, just rebooted to it, built with egcc (but no special
optimizations, just changed gcc to egcc in the makefile)

Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/egcs-2.91.57/specs
gcc version egcs-2.91.57 19980901 (egcs-1.1 release)

Can provide my config if needed..
