That patch (thanks!) allowed it to finish the compilation, but ppp and
the serial ports are just as broken as in 2.1.8. Lots of characters
dropped to the point where the ppp chat script never receives the
strings it's looking for.
Dropping back to 2.0.25 or 2.1.6 and ppp works fine again.
