I don't want to come off like I'm sounding a siren, but I have
noticed something odd with kernels 2.0 since sublevel 18 or so. I get
unreasonable numbers of errors in the ifconfig count for my ppp0
interface. Some background: I've been using the same hardware/phone
line/ISP since about 1.3.50 and have never seen this before. I'm using
ppp-2.2.0f as a module. Only since 2.0.18 (or thereabouts) have I been
seeing *any* errors on an ifconfig report. After only a few hours of
uptime, I have a report like this:

I've tried various MTU/MRU combinations and values. All have the same
effect, except that some don't allow me to switch packets between my
network and specific others.
The error count goes up a lot faster when my Windows clients use
masquerading through my box (which has always worked excellent in all
other ways, except the recent severe slowdowns for the clients during
these error counts). My modem reports no unusual errors, nor does
pppstats. It's a USR Sportster 28.8 V.34 (no, it has no hardware
problems; it has a correct BIOS). Here is some proof modem output. The
Blers and Naks are about normal for a dedicated modem (24/7).
