linux 2.0.20 sb16 midi

I've recompiled 2.0.0 and 2.0.20 in many differnt combinations of
kerneld and midi. Either they locked up on boot or were not set to play midi.
The last try was adding #define NO_SB_IRQ_TEST to sb_commob.c.
That enabled me to compile all the kerneld options with the correct
midi settings for the sb 4.5 card, but still no midi play. Does
anyone have it working? There was some prior discussion but no
solution(my old 1.2.13 worked fine).
